DO NOW: Read and think about these questions:
What do I usually think about myself?
(Do I ever feel differently?)
How do I feel when I've done something particularly well?
How do I feel when I accomplish something that I had to
try hard to do?
How do I feel about myself when I "mess up" and do
something wrong? How can I avoid feeling this way?
Am I proud of myself? Am I a worthwhile person?
WHAT IS SELF-ESTEEM?
How do you develop self-esteem?
Integrity: be honest; be responsible.
Respect yourself: do things that will make you proud of
yourself later.
Being assertive: stick to what you know is right.
How can I get other people to like me? (Is that the right question
or the wrong question?) Ways to build self-esteem:
Get to know yourself (strengths/weaknesses, likes/dislikes)
Learn to like yourself
Be good at something
Set a realistic goal, then achieve it
Be positive
Find a mentor or role model
Do something for others
Have a sense of humor

What kind of friends do I choose for myself?
WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?

Acting so that others will want to follow your example?
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT / DISCUSS WITH PARENTS
This is mostly something you have to do for yourself,
but don't forget to ask your parents for their
guidance and support.
You might want to ask your parents what they think of your friends.
Ask if each is a good or bad person to have as a friends. Discussing
your friends is a good way to discuss the choices you make and some
of the good and bad influences on your life.
