About AMSAIn February, 2004, The Massachusetts Department of Education granted a public school charter to the Advanced Math and Science Academy. The DOE continues to oversee the school, approving members of the Board of Directors, setting the standards for teacher certification, monitoring adherence to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and holding the school to the same academic standards required of all Massachusetts schools.
In 2005, AMSA opened its doors to over 250 6th and 7th grade students, the Pioneer Class. With the addition of an 8th grade in 2006, the student body grew to over 400. Over time, the school will encompass grades 6 through 12 and will accommodate over 900 students. |
