The Advanced Math and Science Academy Board of Trustees


Dr. Anna Charny, Chair of the Board of Trustees, received her MS and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA. She is currently employed by Cisco Systems, Inc. where her work includes algorithms and protocol design for high speed communications networks, Internet standards, patent committee work and technical evaluation of potential acquisition and partnership targets. Dr. Charny holds 19 patents. She maintains close ties with academia, serving on the University Research Program committee at Cisco Systems, and advising graduate student research at Cornell University and the Imperial College of London. Dr. Charny has a long-standing interest in bringing high quality math and science education to secondary school, and has taught and overseen curriculum development at several after-school math programs.

Dr. Robert Ledoux, Vice-Chair and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees, obtained B.S and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from MIT. Dr. Ledoux was Associate Professor of Physics at MIT until 1990. He subsequently founded Radionics Software Applications, Inc (medical instruments), where he managed the company from start-up to profitability developing and bringing to market high technology products, including XKnife therapeutic radiation therapy system. Later as Vice President of Pyramid technical Consultants, he developed control algorithms and hardware used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. He is currently the Founder and CEO of Passport Systems that conducts non-intrusive cargo inspection using Nuclear Resonance Fluorescence Imaging.

John P. Lomot, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, obtained an MS degree in business from Cornell University and a MBA in finance from Adelphi University. He is a manager in the Merchandising department at Staples, Inc. Mr. Lomot has a wife and 2 children and is a 15 year Framingham resident. He has been involved in Framingham youth soccer as a coach for the last 10 years and has served on the board of directors of the club for the last 4 years.

John Bayle, Chair of the Governance Committee, is a 24-year Marlborough resident. He is a Computer Engineer and works in EMC. Mr. Bayle has a decade-long interest in education, he was a candidate for a Marlborough School Committee in 1994 and authored a number of articles on school education.

Thomas Hanson, Chair of the Fundraising Committee, obtained his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He subsequently went on to a twenty five year career in product research and development, consulting, entrepreneurial endeavors and organizational leadership. He has started four companies and has had a number of inventions including two US patents. He is currently employed by Kronos Incorporated as a Director of Engineering and Architect in the Kronos Labs.

Mr. Hanson has been an enthusiastic and active AMSA supporter having assisted in opening the school, the formation of the Parent Action Group (PAG) and providing organizational consulting to the AMSA administration. Mr. Hanson has five children, including his daughter Jesse who attends AMSA, and lives with his wife Katherine in Ashland, Ma. His passions are his family, finding ways to make people and organizations better and the New England Patriots.

Paul R. Garrido received his BA degree in Political Science from Columbia University in New York City and later continued his graduate work at Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts. For the past eighteen years he has been employed by Merrill Lynch & Co. where he is currently a Vice President and Senior Financial Advisor. The firm initially formed the group he is associated with to handle the personal financial planning needs of Merrill Lynch's best Investment Banking clients. His group is a Private Wealth Advisor Team, which is a separately designated group within Merrill Lynch that works with only a finite number of accounts of a minimum asset size. His clients include Chief Executive Officers of publicly held companies, as well as principals in some of our nations leading venture capital firms.

Prior to joining Merrill Lynch Mr. Garrido was a Corporate Researcher at Harvard Business School where he authored a quarterly report on Mergers & Acquisitions. His outside activities include serving on the Board of Directors of The Jewish National Fund in New England. He is a member of the Columbia Club, as well as the Harvard Clubs of Boston and New York City.

Anton Teodorescu received his BA Degree in Engineering and Applied Science from Harvard University, a Master’s Diploma in Computer Science from Cambridge University, UK, and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Mr. Teodorescu is now a Venture Development Executive within IBM’s Venture Capital Group. He began his career at IBM in 1985 as part of the Marketing team. He then joined the newly forming IBM Global Services first as a Consultant, then as a Principal, leading the design, implementation and support engagements for large clients in the Banking, Insurance, Healthcare and Education industries.

Mr. Teodorescu joined IBM’s Venture Capital Group in 2001, and currently works closely with the Venture Capital community in New England, as well as the portfolio companies in which they invest. He helps facilitate linkages between start-up companies with promising solutions or technologies with the different parts of IBM that could best leverage them for the mutual benefit of their customers.

Henry Haugland served as an elected member of Natick's school committee from of March 1998 thru March of 2007. He is a Natick town meeting member and is also president of the Board of Directors of Kids Connect Inc. a Natick-based non-profit that provides tutoring and other services for at-risk middle school children. Henry frequently volunteers in his children’s classrooms, and has been a scout leader, soccer coach and baseball coach. Henry has been actively involved in public education for over 35 years. He has held executive level positions at a number of large companies. Henry has also founded three companies and is currently the CEO of Natick based Webreply Inc. Henry is a 1966 graduate of the University of Colorado and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Catherine Koepper, Parent Representative to the Board of Trustees, received a BA in Sociology from Framingham State College. Ms. Koepper is currently a Sr. Project Manager at Genzyme Corporation and has over 20 years of diverse healthcare and related experience, encompassing biotechnology, clinical research, managed care, hospital care and social work. Additionally, Ms. Koepper has held several positions in the AMSA Parent Action Group, including the chair of the After School Activity Committee; the Vice Presidency in the 2005-2006 school year and the Presidency in the 2006-2007 school year.

Joseph Sweeney, Faculty Representative to the Board of Trustees, received his BA in Economics from Assumption College and his BS in Electrical Engineering at Northeastern. He worked in hardware design at DEC as a Senior Engineer doing integrated circuit design before moving to Cadence Design Systems. He spent 20 years at Cadence where he worked with customers on methodology and process improvements increasing customers design productivity. He took on several key sales roles where he led the North American Consulting Services sales team to record revenues before becoming the Global Account Director covering IBM worldwide. In this time Mr. Sweeney managed a team of 10 people and annual revenues in the six figure range. His work at Cadence has always been one of trouble shooting and turning a stagnant or floundering business into a successful model.

Mr. Sweeney has also held executive positions where he was Vice President of Industrial Design at a Mechanical CAD company and then Vice President of World Wide field operations for a software company in the photolithography technology working on solving challenges in the sub 45nm range. Mr. Sweeney currently is a math teacher at AMSA and has been voted in as the teacher representative to the board as of February 2007. In addition Mr. Sweeney has a consulting company where he works with clients to turn their businesses around in the area of field operations, sales and cash flow. Mr. Sweeney has 4 children and lives in Sutton, Ma. His passions are spending time with his children and playing ice hockey, while he is still able to.
