WELCOME

Welcome To The Advanced Math and Science Academy Public Charter School
The Advanced Math and Science Academy (AMSA) is a public charter school open to all students. Currently, we serve over 600 students in grades 6 through 10. In 2009 we will be adding grade 11 and in 2010 we will be adding grade 12.

In 2005 we opened AMSA in recognition of the need endorsed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics that algebraic activities should begin in the very first years of schooling. We also started AMSA to promote creative teaching and active learning in science, technology, computer science, and the humanities. At AMSA, the curriculum for all subjects is strong and aligned with state standards. Our MCAS scores are among the highest and interest in our school continues to grow. In addition to our strong math, science, and humanities programs, AMSA has recently launched a “Writers of the Month Program.” Each month at AMSA, exceptional student writing is recognized in a special ceremony with Executive Director, Barbara McGann.

What are our core beliefs? Teachers and every member of our team at AMSA believe that students are capable of mastering concepts more advanced than those currently taught in most public schools. All of us believe that every student is born with curiosity, imagination, creativity, wonder, inventiveness, sensitivity, humor, and – most importantly – joy. At AMSA, we believe it is our responsibility as educators to awaken the genius in all our students. We aspire to help our students find their unique and special role in an ever changing world. We seek to encourage active and strategic learners – students who can read, write, speak, and listen across the content areas. We look forward to serving your students at AMSA - one of the very best schools in the Commonwealth.
