Dear Parent of AMSA 6th Graders,
Welcome to AMSA! I am delighted that you and your child will be joining us for the 2024/25 school year. My name is Amanda Morin, and I am a 6th Grade English, Reading and Writing Workshop teacher, and Directed Study teacher as well as the 6th Grade Advisor.
In this email, there is a letter from me that I would like you to share with your child. This letter welcomes them to AMSA and gives them details about orientation on Monday, August 26th. Just a few important points to be aware of:
- Orientation runs from 7:55am - 11:07am. Drop-off begins at 7:30am
- Bus transportation is available
- Students should be in their AMSA uniform for orientation day
- Students are welcome to bring any school supplies as we will spend time learning how to use lockers
- Lunch is not provided
Please see the Grade 6 required book list for English classes. It is vitally important that your child has their own copy of each book that we will read. If you have any questions about the books, please email me at amorin@amsacs.org. Also note the Grade 6 Supply List and Grade 6 Summer Reading list.
In the next few days, your child will receive an email from their Directed Study teacher introducing themselves and giving even more information about orientation. In the meantime, if there is any additional information you need, please let me know and I will be happy to direct your question to the correct person.

Dear AMSA 6th Grader,
Welcome to AMSA! Whether you are a sibling of an AMSA student or new to our school, I am pleased to welcome you to our family. My name is Ms. Morin, and in addition to being a 6th Grade English teacher, Reading and Writing Workshop teacher, and Directed Study teacher, I am also the 6th Grade Advisor. This gives me the opportunity to be one of the first teachers to tell you how happy I am that you will be joining our amazing school next week. Your teachers have been working hard to design an engaging and challenging learning environment that will build a strong community in classrooms and across the entire 6th grade.
The first opportunity to begin our journey together will be on Monday, August 26th at 7:55 am. At that time, we will begin 6th Grade Orientation. During orientation, you will meet a lot of people who make AMSA the special place that it is. In addition to meeting teachers, you will take a tour of our lower school building, practice opening your locker, spend time with our dean, Mr. Montesion, and learn about AMSA culture from Dr. Mobley, our Executive Director, Mr. Nawrocki, our Principal, and Ms. Cence, our Vice Principal. We will also spend time in small groups getting to know each other. It’s going to be an action packed day!
You may arrive at orientation any time between 7:30am and 7:50am. When you arrive, look for the sign-in table with your Directed Study teacher's name on it. This is where you will check in and create your nametag. Please be in your AMSA uniform for the day. Because you will be spending time acquainting yourself with your locker, feel free to bring in any school supplies you can carry. Don't worry if it won't all fit in your backpack on Monday. You can bring additional items in throughout the first week.
Right now, I hope you and your family are relaxing, making memories, and enjoying the final week of summer. I can’t wait to see you at orientation on the 26th.
See you soon,
Ms. Morin
