Special Education
The Special Education Department teaches skills that students need in order to access and make progress in the general education curriculum. The skill development areas include academic and executive functioning skills as well as social/emotional and behavioral skills that are needed to access the life of the school.
Our service delivery model is an inclusive model of service, which means that students receive their special education services in the classroom, where the learning occurs. General Educators, Learning Specialists, and Assistant Learning Specialists work as a cohesive team with the student and family to effectively implement the Students Individual Education Plan.
We have a full service of Related Service Providers which include Adjustment Counselors, Psychologist, Speech and Language Pathologist, and Behavior Specialist to consult with team members and provide direct services. Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy are currently a contract service through Assabet Valley Collaborative.
We also have an Inclusion Specialist to effectively include students in the general education classroom. The Inclusion Specialist works with students and families who may need an increased level of support in the development of skills needed to access the curriculum.
We are excited to work with you! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any and all questions or concerns.
Ensuring Equal Access to AMSA Education
Embracing students "of all backgrounds and abilities" is the core of AMSA's mission. It also goes to the heart of the Special Education Department.
