World Languages

The department of World Languages emphasizes the integration of oral proficiency, communication in the target language, and grammatical sequences in order to create a solid foundation in the language. All students are capable of learning a 2nd language! It is highly recommended that all students elect a world language by ninth grade and that the same language be continued as colleges value this in their admissions process.

Our objectives are for every student to:

  • Develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures.
  • Compare their own language and culture with another.
  • Make connections with other subject areas.
  • Participate in communities at home and around the world in other languages.

Through the use of communicative activities, technology, reading, writing and the study of grammar, students develop a working knowledge of the target language that is useful in the current global society in which we live.
