Frida Kahlo was an Mexican artist who is known for her life and her art. She was born in Mexico City on July 6, 1907, and grew up there. Her health problems started when she was a child and had polio. She also almost died in a bus accident in her adolescence. The damage from this accident caused great pain throughout her life, and it inspired much of her art. She grew up during the Mexican Revolution, and after seeing the anguish that was being caused by nationalism, she got involved in various groups that fought for socialism and Mexicanness. In 1928, she met Diego Rivera in one of these groups. He was a communist through and through , and they formed a passionate relationship. Frida married Diego, starting what would be a tumultuous marriage: much of Frida’s art shows the sadness she felt about Diego’s betrayals. They divorced in 1939, only to get married again a year later. “I don't have the least ambition to become anybody.” Frida Kahlo was authentic: a feminist, a proud Mexican woman, and someone who survived many hardships. She died at only 47 from pneumonia. Her art is famous across the world, as well as her brave and bold personality.
Frida Kahlo era una artista mexicana que es muy conocida por su vida y arte. Nació en Ciudad de México el 6 de julio de 1907, y creció allí. Sus problemas de salud empezaron cuando era niña y tenía polio. También casi murió en un accidente de autobús en su adolescencia. Este accidente causaba mucho dolor a lo largo de su vida, e inspiraba mucho de su arte. Frida creció durante la Revolución Mexicana, y después de ver la angustia que era causada por el nacionalismo, ella se involucró en varios grupos que pelearon por el socialismo y la mexicanidad. En 1928, conoció a Diego Rivera en uno de estos grupos. Él era un comunista completamente, y ellos formaron una relación apasionada. Frida se casó con Diego Rivera, y ellos tenían una relación tumultuosa: mucho del arte de Frida muestra su tristeza sobre las traiciones de Diego.
