Why AMSA
AMSA is more than just a charter school; it's a transformative journey that advances math and science proficiency for all students, particularly those from underserved populations. We firmly believe in the potential of every student, regardless of their background or circumstances.
There is an inherent emphasis on empowering women and students typically divested in Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (SEM). At AMSA, we recognize the importance of gender diversity in STEM fields and are committed to providing opportunities for young women to excel and thrive. Our commitment to closing educational gaps and empowering students to excel in math and science is unwavering.
What distinguishes AMSA is our steadfast commitment to the success of every student who attends our school. Our innovative teaching and learning approach offers the personalized support and resources our students need to excel academically. We adapt our curriculum to meet the diverse needs of our student population, helping them overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
At AMSA, we don't just aim to meet standards; we exceed them. Our students enter with significant educational gaps but graduate meeting or exceeding all math, science, and humanities standards. This remarkable achievement is a testament to our talented educators' dedication, our student body's resilience, and our supporters' unwavering commitment.
Join us at AMSA and be part of a community that is committed to excellence, equity, and opportunity for all. Together, we can empower the next generation of leaders in math and science and build a brighter future for our students and our world.

FAQs
What is AMSA?
The Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School (AMSA) is a seven-year, comprehensive public school educating students in grades 6-12. AMSA opened its doors in 2005 and is located in Marlborough, Mass., about 35 miles west of Boston. AMSA's goal is to bring quality education, typically available only at exclusive private or exam schools, to an all-inclusive public school setting. AMSA’s teaching model is centered on providing a rigorous college-oriented education for all students. We believe that children of diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities can achieve a world-class education if given the opportunity to apply themselves diligently. Admittance to AMSA is based on a space-availability lottery
conducted annually in late winter.
What is a charter school?
Charter schools in Massachusetts are free public schools that are open to all students within the state. Admission is determined by random lottery; there are no entrance exams or admissions requirements. Charter public schools are managed by a public board of trustees and follow the same open-meeting laws and rules as district public schools.
How is AMSA funded?
Charter schools are public schools that operate outside of city/town public school districts’ annual budgets. They receive state funding per student, but unlike school districts, they must pay for their own facilities and improvements. Charter schools do not have access to Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) funds such as other Massachusetts public schools and therefore we are dependent on private fundraising.
