8th Grade Physics Students Learn About Buoyancy
Mr. Brandes’ 8th Grade Physics classes have been learning about the principle of buoyancy with hands on – and hands wet – group projects. Students estimated and then tested how many pennies it would take to sink boats they made out of tin foil. To accurately figure out the buoyant force, they needed to calculate various factors including the weight of each penny, volume of space in their boats, and density of water. In other words, whatever floats their boats!
