Comp Sci Students Make Human Algorithms

Comp Sci Students Make Human Algorithms

Students in Mrs. Stanley’s 6th Grade Computer Science class last week turned themselves into human lists of unordered numbers to be sorted by a “wizard” using different algorithms.

Here, the wizard demonstrates the steps of an insertion sort, comparing adjacent pairs of numbers and moving them into proper place until the list of 10 numbers is in order. (It took 6 moves.)

Mrs. Stanley says that physically performing the steps helps students understand algorithm sorts, a key concept in CS that leads to learning to code.

Students also are making movies of their human algorithm sorts. Stay tuned!
