Physics Students Make Waves

Physics Students Make Waves

Students may be used to being told not to make waves. But in Mr. Stonebraker’s Honors Physics lab they were encouraged to do the opposite – make waves – except with strings. When a clamped string is vibrated at certain frequencies, a standing wave forms. The students experimented with different strings, tensions, and frequencies to learn about the relationships between them in creating wave patterns.
