Students Learn About Product Development from AMSA Trustee

The Technovation Club, Business Club, and CS GEMS and GENTS Clubs all got together on Feb. 16 to learn about product development from Lucy Ferrante, CFO of Cone Communications and member of the AMSA Board of Trustees.

Technovation Club is participating in the Technovation Challenge, an annual mobile app development competition for middle and high school girls. Students work in teams to research, design, and build mobile app prototypes that address community problems.

Ms. Ferrante is a mentor for AMSA’s Technovation teams this year, serving as a role model, sharing her expertise, helping the teams problem solve, and supervising the girls as they develop their prototypes.

During the 12-week Technovation Challenge, each team conducts market research, develops a business plan, designs their mobile app, and creates presentations. At the end of the program, they pitch their apps to prospective investors and receive feedback and ideas from technology professionals.

“AMSA has been successful in changing the attitude of girls toward technology and computer science,” said Mrs. Bandaru, Technovation Club faculty advisor. “Girls do not need any experience to participate and compete in Technovation. Since 2010, AMSA has had at least four teams every year, and we were regional winners for two years.”

Watch for more updates as the AMSA teams develop their mobile apps.
