The State Division 2 Meet was Feb. 19 at MIT and Eagles men swimmers were there!
We were represented by Captain, Jesse Matijevic, senior, Willem deHaan, juniors, Noah Laird, & Casey Matijevic, and sophomore, Jagger Sandford, with alternates Landon Levins (junior) and James Martinez (sophomore), as well as Team Managers for the meet, Jonathan Bruno (8th grade) and Vedant Roymoulik (senior).
The team had a bit of a shaky start, disqualifying in event #1, the 200 Medley Relay, however, we picked ourselves up, dusted off, and got back to work.
Senior, Willem deHaan, actually qualified in 3 individual events, but chose to swim only one in order to help the team with the 3 qualified relay events. He chose the 100 FR to be his event. Willem was able to capture a Personal Best finish time of 50.08 earning the team 6 points. This finish time bested Willem's own AMSA School Record for this event which he had set earlier this seaon on 2/2/2023.
Next up was the 200 FR Relay team of Willem deHaan, Jagger Sandford, Casey Matijevic, and Jesse Matijevic. This team had previously posted a best time of 1:37.65 at the West Central Sectional Meet last Sunday, February 12, out at Springfield College. Yesterday, they put up a Team Best time of 1:37.43 earning 4 team points and the AMSA School Record over the 2019 team of Ben Williams, Nathan Hardy, Owen Nicholas, and Joshua Skwersky.
The final event was the 400 FR Relay. Our swimmers were Jagger Sandford, Casey Matijevic, Jesse Matijevic, and Willem deHaan. We were able to place 16th and earn 2 team points with a time of 3:37.53. Though this was a Team Best time for this group (entry time was 3:38.74), they were unable to topple the AMSA School Record of 3:36.79 set in 2019 by Joshua Skwersky, Willem deHaan, Jesse Hogan, and Ben Williams.
School Team Swim Records are attached along with the D2 State Results from yesterday. Please note that we are still researching the Team Records however, currently they go back only until the 2018-2019 season in which the school switched to the Winter season from the Fall season.
Great Day!
