Ellen Ochoa

• Ellen Ochoa es la primera astronauta hispana del mundo. Nació en Los Ángeles, California, el diez de mayo de 1958. 
• Ella fue a la universidad de Stanford y obtuvo su maestría y su doctorado en ingeniería eléctrica. 
• Con estos logros, ella obtuvo un trabajo trabajando para NASA. 
• Pero uno de sus mejores logros fue en 1990, cuando la NASA la escogió para el programa de astronautas. Ella terminó su entrenamiento en 1991, y se convirtió en la primera astronauta que era una mujer hispana del mundo. 
• En su primera misión, ella y las otras astronautas estudiaron el sol, y la interacción en el medio del sol y la atmósfera del mundo. 
• Luego en 1999, se convirtió en una miembro del equipo de Discovery STS-96, que era la primera atraque en el ISS (Estación del espacio internacional). Muchos de sus siguientes logros también fueron relacionados con el ISS. 
• En 2002, Ellen Ochoa volvió al ISS para la misión STS-110, con el transbordador Atlantis.
• En todos sus viajes al espacio, Ochoa pasó más de 40 días en el espacio.
• En 2007, se convirtió en la subdirectora del Centro Espacial Johnson en Houston, Texas. Ochoa es la segunda mujer y la primera hispana que tenía esta posición.
• Ahora Ellen Ochoa está jubilada y vive en Idaho.

• Ellen Ochoa is the first female hispanic astronaut in the world. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on May 10th, 1958.
• She went to Stanford University and she got her doctorate in electrical engineering.
• With these accomplishments, she got a job working for NASA.
• But one of her most important accomplishments was in 1990, when NASA chose her for their astronaut program. She finished her training for the program in 1990, and she became the first astronaut that was a hispanic woman in the world.
• In her first mission, she and the other astronauts studied the sun, and the interaction between the sun and the earth’s atmosphere.
• Later in 1999, she became a member of the Discovery STS-96 team, which was the first docking on the ISS (International Space Station). Many of her following accomplishments were also related to the ISS.
• In 2002, Ellen Ochoa went to the ISS for the STS-110 mission, with the shuttle Atlantis.
• In all her trips to space, Ochoa spent over 40 days in space.
• In 2007, she became the deputy director of the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Ochoa is the second woman and the first hispanic to ever have this position.
• Now, Ellen Ochoa is retired and she lives in Idaho.
