The mother never married Dawson's biological father, and when Dawson was one year old, she married Greg Dawson. At the age of fifteen, Dawson was seen on her porch in front of the directors of the movie Kids, and they thought she was perfect for the role. That was when her career started.
Dawson has strong political opinions. In 2004, she was arrested for protesting against George W. Bush. She supported Obama in 2012, and Bernie Sanders in 2016. Again, Dawson was arrested while protesting in 2016 during Democracy Spring. She supported her boyfriend, Cory Booker, for president in 2020. If she became First Lady, she would help fight for the homeless youth. When Booker dropped out of the election, Dawson again supported Bernie Sanders.
